As noted this was the second time working with this company – I wrongly figured that the experiences of the first transaction we are result of us both learning to work with each other. I actually happy with the products from the first order.
So, along comes the second order and prior to placing I remind them that on this order they must be more diligent about getting the Certificate of Origin send on the day they ship so I would receive it in time to present it to customs. Received the response, yes of course. Shipment went out, asked for confirmation of sending the Cert of Origin, told don’t worry. A week later I asked for confirmation, no response (repeated 5 or more times including emails to the owner whom I had met and dined with – no responses). Finally got them to agree to send electronic version to buy time with customs so we could declare the merchandise. What they sent was completely wrong, we got fined $120 by customs. Asked for corrections they showed me corrected version via email… asked for it to be sent, no response. Kept pushing, finally on day shipment would normally have been released I was asked for DHL number. I gave them the info and was told they couldn’t send because it was Chinese new year (actually believe they purposely delayed to cause this to happen). Worse, next came corona virus so another month goes by without the Cert of Orig en. Finally arrives after goods have been in customs almost two months…. Submit it and immediately get told that the HS number they provided on Cert was wrong – now a $250 fine. then another fine of $120 for missing customs deadline dates.
That’s part of my story with this supplier – Payments another issues. We agree 50% in advance, 50% at shipment. Pay 50%, no worries. Go to pay 2nd 50% and am told that my balance is $60 higher than 2nd 50% of purchase price – am told that I must pay THEIR bank commission charges (in addition to my own) otherwise they won’t release the goods and, by the way, must make sure pay the $60 on this second payment or goods won’t be shipped. In total my $3500 order ended up with an additional $500 in fines, $120 on their bank commission charges (I order lots from china and have never been charges suppliers bank commissions for a wire), $122 for them to send the Certificate of Origin to me by DHL, plus my bank charges and lots of headaches and problems. 20% added costs vs quote, terrible customer service, and problems with customs…. It is just not worth it. My sales rep, Wendy, I would not deal with – she is either too busy or doesn’t care – either way a problem. George, the owner (again, whom I have met) refused to answer emails sent directly to him asking for help.
If I should ever order from this company again I will forget the Certificate of Origin and just pay the added Ad-valorum taxes (would have been $500 and the added headaches. Once this is released from customs I do expect to have a large additional storage charge added to my custom brokers invoice….

If you are waiting on a document like a Certificate of Origin and you are getting the run-around from this company or others, and the amount is relatively small, save yourself the headache and pay the Ad-Valorum. The headaches, added costs, and future problems with customs is not worth the trouble.
