Stage of relationship with the supplier at the time of the incident:
I ordered a Car Lift for the maintenance of car engine, oil and tires. Lift arrived after opening the wooden box- I first discovered that the color was wrong. Supplier acknowledged that the workers had sent me another customers’ order. I then tried to put the extension support together and realized they were not fitting properly due to the powder coating was over sprayed into the fitting area. Supplier asked that I scrap off the powder coating in the affected areas. Supplier also acknowledged careless worker mistakes. I proceeded in assembling the lift without instructions for wiring the power or how much hydraulic oil is required. I had to call and ask supplier for guidance.
On initial test lift goes up quickly and come down slowly. Messaged Supplier and they indicated that there is no load (car) on the lift. On the next test I drove my smallest car over the lift and set the arms accordingly under the main car support areas. Pushed the up button (Green) and noted the hydraulic oil dripping out from the adjusting screws on the motor side. I tightened the licking nut and ensured the adjustment screw did not change (using an Allen Wrench) as I tighten. This prevented the hydraulic oil from spill onto the floor causing a slipping hazard and safety awareness. I then continued with the testing which revealed all issues: Lift could not lift up the car over 1’ foot, motor sounds that it struggling to pump hydraulic oil to the cylinders that after sever attempts it will trip the power breaker. On occasions the up button will get stuck causing the lift to automatically try and go up that the only way to stop this is to unplug power from outlet. At the same time when lowering the lift it is binding and causing the lift to not fully close that I would have to manually pry the lift down to close. I then removed the car and tested the lift up and down. After the 3rd time I noted that as it goes up and down the hydraulic hose is affected by this motion causing the fittings to the hydraulic cylinders to come loose and creating a hydraulic oil leak.
Supplier acknowledges all the issues and blames the motor manufacture for the cause, however there has been a big delay in time and communication in having this resolved. In the beginning communication from me to supplier then supplier to motor engineer then motor engineer back to supplier then supplier back to me. Days and days had passed after several request to work directly with motor engineer, I was unsuccessful. Supplier informed me that they will replace the motor but I could not have them confirm a delivery date or even a tracking number. I then realized that I’m being given the run around and misbelieving they are addressing the issue as they claim they are busy with order, then came the National Holiday (two weeks). I then decided to file a dispute. Dispute ruling that I was outside the 30 day claim period. I filed another dispute and justified all areas of the proforma invoice the was breached, ruling came back again as being outside the 30 day claim period.
Again I filed a third dispute and again indicated I was outside the 30 day claim period and only this time the Supplier (GOLD Supplier) was sided with on their claim that I debugged the lift but honored me a warranty that supplier will work with me on. Mind you that I wasn’t getting any replies from supplier (messages were not being answered and phone calls were ignored prior to filing dispute claim) I would only get a message when the dispute team makes contact with supplier after that I would be ignored again. I filed a forth dispute as there were no timeline given to supplier to address the warranty. The warranty is for 2 years, it has been over 5 months since the arrival of the car lift that hasn’t worked. This shouldn’t be under warranty if they acknowledged that the order was for another customer and worker was at fault.
I was mislead on the ruling to work amicably with the supplier (which I was mislead in believing that the supplier was addressing my issues) which caused a great deal of delay in dispute filing.
You may try to work amicably with supplier to resolve any issues, but file a dispute immediately can assist in finding a resolution.
