User Experience:
SHORT STORY:
They sold us more than $10.000 of battery packs with defective lithium cells inside. The batteries worked perfectly the firsts months but became gradually unusable (they lost all the capacity) after 1 year.
LONG STORY:
We purchased 2 types of lithium battery packs from HOPCell: 14.8V 2600mAh (4S1P) and 25.9V 5000mAh (7S2P). The chosen lithium cell manufacturer was FST (First New Energy Group Co., Ltd, www.firstbattery.com) one of the best Chinese lithium cell manufacturers, although of inferior quality in respect to South Korean or Japanese cells manufacturers.
During the tests of the samples the quality has always been perfect, and still today (after 3 years) the battery samples work perfectly.
After the first bulk order (400 pieces) we never had problems with the 25.9V 5000mAh batteries that used 2500mAh cells, but we noticed that rarely some 14.8V 2600mAh batteries tended to become unbalanced, not being the battery packs equipped with internal balancing circuit.
We discussed the problem with the manufacturer who suggested not to mounting an internal balancer circuit because it was unnecessary, arguing that we would no longer have had the problem from the next order because they would have controlled the quality of the FST cells better. At the second order (other 400 pieces) the manufacturer used 2600mAh cells for both type of batteries without asking our permission, in any case we did not complain about this change because the cells used had higher capacity than the one we ordered.
Initially the batteries worked properly and passed our quality checks. After a few months, however, all the batteries began becoming unbalanced and lose capacity.
Subsequent investigations and tests have shown that the cells mounted inside the battery packs had a self-discharge currents very different from each other, many of them has a self-discharge currents so high that they would have to be considered faulty.
The result is that the battery packs lose from 30 to 50% of the capacity in 6 months and they become practically useless after a year. Considering that all battery pack manufacturers perform extensive tests on every single cell used to perform the ‘capacity matching’ and ‘internal impedance matching’, HOPCell had to be aware that the cells were faulty but decided to use them anyway.
We had to replace all the batteries of this lot, many of which had already been sold together with our products, which resulted in huge economic losses.
HOPCell has refused to solve the problem or even refund part of the goods. They continue to argue that the cells used are good even if we have provided all the data that shows the opposite.
User Recommendations:
Beware of relatively small companies (fewer than 100 employees declared) opened a few years ago. These companies try to make as much money as possible by selling low-quality and faulty goods and then close and reopen under another name.
If possible, rely on companies with hundreds or thousands of employees open for many years and with important references.
