User Experience:
We decided to purchase our custom women’s jeans from Zega Apparel/Zegatron. We paid in full on June 15, 2017. Our first sample was to be completed within a week and a half. Though we were getting frequent updates via both phone and email so though they missed the first leadtime on the sample, we were encouraged because the communication was strong.
We received the first sample on September 4th, 2017 which was quite a bit after the expectation. Our initial impressions were that it was decent quality (not great, not awful) but that one of our core instructions of including all the proper sizing tags and care labels were not followed. Another company’s label had been placed in the shipment, although not sewn in. We were a little agitated because we had been told that we waited an additional month for the labels to be created AND sewn in, so my first red flag went up there.
Nonetheless, we persevered and sent our feedback of what needed to be address on September 7th, 2017. Our contact, Nabeel Syed (no longer there), assured us that they were minimal changes and it would be easily handled. Over the course of the next month, I both spoke via phone and over email with Nabeel to inquire about updates and was assured it was all coming along quite well. On October 4th, I asked if we could expect to see it soon and he said yes. Another month went by, I continued to check in and continued to hear that they were close to having it completed.
On October 30th, Nabeel told me over the phone that he was shipping our sample that day. We were ecstatic! Because they ship via air, it took 5 days for the first sample to arrive. We waited about a week and inquired again as we had not received anything. On November 7th, Murtuza Khan (Corporate Sales Manager) informed me via email that Nabeel was no longer with the company and that no second sample had ever been produced. He told me that he was under the impression we changed our minds and no longer wanted to produce with them. Admittedly, I flew off the handle and was enraged. He told me it would take 15 days and then we would have a brand new sample. Murtuza also assured me that he would deliver us a perfect experience to make up for the grievances we had.
Murtuza stopped answering his phone and emails in any sort of timely manner (actually he never called us back and hardly emailed). We did hear from him on November 26th, when he informed me that the sample was made in the wrong size so they would have to remake it. I told him to just send it in whatever size so we could assess it. Though he agreed to do that, he didn’t and we didn’t receive another sample until December 11th, 2017. This “sample” can hardly be called a sample because it did not fit ONE of our specifications of our order summary. It was the wrong fabric, fit, trim & hardware, tags, wash, had a terrible odor and words were misspelled on our custom labels. I tried multiple times to reach him and he never acknowledged my calls. Actually, we had a call set for December 12th initially and he blew it off. Finally, he sent an email asking for the issues. I addressed them in great detail and length, and he claimed that they had to make certain compromises on the sample because they were trying to turn it around in a faster timeframe that they have ever done, after our sample was made in the wrong size. But I reminded him that we had asked for the sample size that was first done and he no response. After many days of follow-up he finally said he had to check with production. Multiple times he emailed me over the course of the following weeks saying he couldn’t get a response back from production. After being told time and time again to wait, he emailed back asking what the problems were to make a new sample. I lost it. They had several emails with specific details, as well as our order summary so it became clear he was just pushing us off. Today is January 5, 2018 and the email I received today said this:
Hello Amy,
I do not understand what you are looking for here when clearly I have told you that regardless of all the samples we’ve created for you matching your specifications, we are still willing to create another sample for you if you are going to mention the changes. The reason why I emailed you to mention those again to me is because in all the past emails you’ve given me a complete big email with multiple stories in it which cannot clearly define all the changes you are looking for as we cannot afford to create one more sample after this for you in any case.
What I am asking from you here is to highlight the changes from the first sample that we sent you over, write them down properly so that the sample could be recreated. The sample cannot be created in any case if you are not going to properly mention all the changes to me in one e-mail specifying all the dos and don’ts so it could be created accurately.
For example:
1- Sizing has to be changed(attach updated sizing chart)
2- Fabric has to be this or that
3- Button has to be this or that etc etc.
Please mention these to me instead of anything else to get on the same page. I am the only friend you have in this sitatiuon here and no other “higher authorities” are going to help you when clearly I am the highest authority you can reach to get the sample recreated. If I forward this to the higher authorities, your order will be sent to disputed cases and closed since we do not provide any refunds at all and you have claimed for that in your e-mails.
If you want us to create the sample properly for you, then you got to mention the changes the way I have highlighted above.
Murtuza Khan
Every conversation or communication we have with him contradicts what he tells us previously and/or manipulates the truth. Nothing about our second sample was accurate, yet in this last email he claims it was made to every specification and that they allegedly will make one more sample and that’s all, though they have yet to complete one full sample 100% to our job order. He will still not answer any of our calls. It is our sincere impression that our luck is done and we cannot expect to receive what we paid for. My hope is that others don’t fall victim.
I have all the written emails and documentation to validate every single claim and line of this review.
User Recommendations:
Pay first for a sample only and then if that’s acceptable, discuss payment terms for the remainder of the project.

UPDATE PLEASE READ IN ENTIRETY —
I was the original poster of this review, and I would like to add some updates because I think in the spirit of fairness they deserve to be given credit for how they have since jumped in and resolved our situation. We managed to get in contact with the owner, and he willingly jumped on a call with us to review each of our concerns. He has been WONDERFUL to work with, he promised to create a real sample and even paid for us to send him one we wanted to duplicate to make it easier for everyone. He went out of his way to do that. He has since created a new sample for us to review in a very quick timeframe and we are actually set to receive it within the next day or two. The communication and updates have been wonderful.
If I could remove this original posting, I would do it because I genuinely think the owner is very authentic about wanting to fix our experiences and do what has to be done to keep us as customers going forward. And given how it’s gone thus far since contacting him, we are honestly interested in working together with him in the future. Being an owner of a company myself, I think it’s only fair and right to acknowledge how hard he has worked on our behalf since becoming aware of our issues.
Hi! Have you since worked with Zega Apparel? If so, what was your experience buying from them? Thank you in advance!
Miriam
Actually after making my second comment and trying to give them a second chance, it all took a turn for the worst again. As a result of sharing this initial post, they claimed they were no longer willing to complete our project, nor refund us. So they have pocketed our full payment and we have gotten nothing in return. Also, we had sent them a premium pair of denim jeans from my own closet and they aren’t returning those either. Very upsetting. They initially took ownership of everything that had gone wrong, then did an about face and are trying to place the blame on others.
