Stage of relationship with the supplier at the time of the incident:
Posted an RFP on Alibaba website for 1,000 USB drives and was contacted by this Chinese company with a quote. Requested invoice and placed order. Sent wire transfer for $2,550 US on June 27. Transfer was collected at destination on June 30, and the vendor continued responding to emails for one week, saying they had not yet received the wire. Then suddenly all correspondence stopped. They no longer respond to queries via email or the contact form on their website. Have contacted local police and Alibaba – neither of whom can do anything to assist.
Do not pay for anything with a wire transfer as you may as well be lighting a match to $2500 cash.
