Sending More Money To a Bad Supplier To Resolve a Dispute is a Bad Idea

A South American buyer writes Supplier Blacklist with the following update.

Good news, the supplier saw that we listed them on the blacklist and we used this leverage to resolve the dispute. We settled on an additional payment of 1500 USD. I would like to have a lawyer on hand in case another more problems. BTW, do you have a well known person or company that can make Pre-Shipment inspection to our PCBA production in Shenzhen?

I am glad to hear the listing helps and I hope that payment works for you.

I have seen so many suppliers say they will ship after receiving the extra money, but then they don’t ship and ask for even more.

If they are in control, they have the leverage. Are you sure this seller is real and not a scam? If you are unsure, know that independent assessment only costs a few 100 USD. If the seller is real, do you have a contract w them? If yes, you should get the agreement into a formal contract so that you don’t pay this extra 1500 until goods have passed independent QC and have shipped out of China. So you are wise to ask about having a lawyer on hand to review your contracts before you send that 1500 USD.

Make your resolution official with a new agreement, under signature, bilingual, reviewed by a Chinese lawyer! Or else you may be throwing good money after bad!

Regarding your question about pre-shipment inspection, you are doing the right thing by getting that in place, but I strongly advise against hiring “a person” because individual inspectors are easy for the factory to bribe. You are better off spending a little more money and hiring a professional inspection company. Unlike a freelance inspection, and actual inspection agency will even offer a guarantee on the quality of their service!
