Stage of relationship with the supplier at the time of the incident:
This supplier found us through internet and send us an introductory email promoting their Denim pants.
His price was good and we made samples, which were not so bad, actually so so, but in concordance with the price offered and good enough for my customer.
After we completed the sampling process which took at least 6 months it took another 6 months to send a correct PP sample, get approval and produce the bulk.
At that point, my customer wanted hardly to cancel the order due to the delay and all the problems we caused to them but we did not want to loose the advanced money so we negotiated a discount. Not big deal just 10% discount for the huge delay. Mr Lucky sent us the new invoice with 10% discount and we sent the balance payment to him.
Afterwards, he received the money and said please pay the balance 10% or I will sell the goods next week. Crazy!! We had no choice but to pay for it to get the goods.
We had sent our agent to pay cash on site and against container stuffing because we were afraid of paying and get more money request from Mr Lucky. Afterwards he refused to pay for the FOB charges so it lead to more delays and finally we had to pay these charges by ourselves. Do not let your cherished customer suffer from such nightmare intermediaries!
Go to China! Meet Chinese suppliers face to face! do not rest on small mail/Skype talks and document everything very clearly, even if the supplier is friendly and helpful. Sometimes it’s better to pay a few cents more and find a reliable supplier with proven experience and real customers.
